Welcome to Robins and Owls Class Year 1 and Year 2
This half term we will centre our learning around the theme ‘Near and Far.’ We will launch our learning with our wider curriculum block which focuses on Geography asking and answering the question, ’ This follows on from our History lessons last half term.
Our Talk for Writing text will be ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch,’ by Ronda and David Armitage. We will complete this narrative by writing our own ‘losing tale.’ In Design and Technology we will be plan, make and evaluate a method of transport for moving China clay from pit to port.
In Maths we will be learning about Time then moving on to Mass, Capacity and Temperature and finally Geometry.
In P.E the children will be taking part in Athletics, learning to sprint, strategies to enhance our performance in races and take part in team relay races. This will lead us into Sports Day at Par Track, where we will showcase our skills.
Homework books will be sent home every Wednesday and we collect them back in at school on Monday mornings.
Please make sure you listen to your child read as often as possible- at least 4 times weekly. Books will be changed every 3 days during Read, Write, Inc lessons. Children in the comprehension groups will change their chapter books in class as necessary.
Year 2 pupils will be given spellings in their homework books at the beginning of each half term. There will be a small spelling test each week.
Tapestry will be used when appropriate for us to share practical learning, special events, homework and important class messages. Please make sure you check the app regularly.
PE days are Monday and Thursday for Robins and Wednesday and Friday for Owls.
Please make sure your PE kit is always named and kept in school. We will send kits home at the end of every half term to be washed.
