This half term our learning theme is “Amazing Animals.” 

The children will be immersed in the story ‘Goldilocks and The Three Bears.’ They  will learn, retell and rewrite the story.  Year one children will be innovating the story using their own ideas. We will learn about and describe the characters. The children will enjoy a range of stories linked to Spring and plants in class to support their writing. The children will enjoy a range of stories linked to Summer, animals and materials to support their writing. 

Science will be in focus this half term, the children will investigate our enquiry question:  

“Where do different animals live?” 

Reception will be learning about different animals and their habitats. They will be creating their own fact file about their favourite animal. They will also get to explore a range of materials and find out which materials would best to create shelter for an animal.  

During our art lessons, the children will learn about the artist Yayoi Kusama. They will explore and develop their knowledge of primary and secondary colours before using dots to create their own pictures in the style of Yayoi Kusama.  

In maths Reception  will be looking at sharing amounts, odd and even numbers and exploring using maps to support their positional language development.  Year one will be looking at place value within 100, money and time.  

In PE  the children will focus on Athletics where they learn to use their bodies to jump, run and use under and over arm throws all in preparation for their Sports Day activities.  

In R.E Reception will explore the question: 

‘Which stories are special and why?’ 

Whilst Year one will explore the question: 

‘How should we care for others and why is the world important?’

Please make sure book bags are brought into school daily. Puffins have PE on Thursdays and Fridays, please ensure that your child has a named PE kit with trainers in school each day. Please send a named coat to school for your child each day.
