Welcome to Puffins - Reception/Year 1
This half term the children will spend time learning about the world around them.
This half term our learning theme is “What a wonderful world!”
In reception the children will learn about where they live and the local area. They will follow a route around the school and explore drawing maps. The children will explore the local area on a locality walk, learning about nearby landmarks. Year 1 will be thinking about where we live and learning about what it is like in Norway, making comparisons. As they answer the question:
What are the similarities and differences between my local area and Norway?
Reception children will continue to focus on developing fine motor control through a range activities, including pen disco. The children will be learning the story ‘Lost and Found’ by Oliver Jeffers, retelling the story as a class. Year one will be learning to write sentences in order for the story.
In PE the children will develop their dance skills; focussing on rhythm, timing and movement.
In Maths the reception children will be learning about numbers to 10 and exploring mass and capacity. The year 1 children will be focusing on place value, followed by addition and subtraction within 20.
Throughout all lessons we will think about core values and our My Personal Best values- gratitude and empathy.
We will use Tapestry to share your child's learning with you and to share important class messages. Please make sure you check the app regularly. Click here for Tapestry website
Please make sure book bags are brought into school daily. Puffins have PE on Mondays and Thursdays, please ensure that your child has a PE kit with trainers in school each day. Please send a coat to school for your child each day.
