Welcome to Kingfishers - Reception
This half term our learning theme is “Whatever the Weather.”
The children will be immersed in the story ‘The Enormous Turnip. They will learn, retell and rewrite the story. The children will enjoy a range of stories linked to Spring, weather and plants in class to support their writing.
Geography will be in focus this half term, the children will investigate our enquiry question:
“How does the weather change?”
Reception will be learning about the weather and creating a leaflet about how we can look after our beaches. Each day, the children will become ‘weather watchers’, looking outside to see what the weather is doing and talking about how the weather changes. Together, they will create a class weather chart.
During our art lessons, the children will learn about the artist Richard Shilling. They will explore and develop their drawing skills to produce observational artwork linked to nature. They will explore different textures, patterns and colours and create their own natural art picture.
In maths Reception will be counting to 20 and beyond. They will be subitising amounts, adding and subtracting and finding patterns in numbers. The children will also be exploring shape.
In PE the children will focus on Striking and Fielding, learning techniques to support stopping a ball, e.g. using the barrier technique and learning how to strike a ball using a variety of equipment, such as cricket bats.
