Welcome to Swallows- Year 1
This half term our learning theme is “Near and Far”.
Our main story will be, “Lost and Found” by Oliver Jeffers. We will be thinking about little journeys we regularly make, the methods of travel we use such as walking, bicycles, cars and buses. We will also be learning about the capital cities of the UK. Learning more about what it is like in London, making comparisons to our locality.
In history the children will be answering the question:
Who is the King of the castle?
They will learn about the life of Queen Elizabeth II and her family tree. Following this, the children will learn all about King Charles III and his Coronation. They will also find out more about how King Charles helps the planet.
In maths we will be exploring the early stages of multiplication and division before moving onto the fractions of halves and quarters. We will also be counting in 2s ,5s and 10s to help us to problem solve.
In art we will be looking at the work of Andy Goldsworthy, in particular his transient art using natural objects. We look forward to thinking of our own transient art ideas and developing this with a trip to the beach during this half term.
PE is all about striking and fielding this half term, we hope to be outside using our field as much as possible if the sun shines or the rain stops! SCARF is all about “Rights and Responsibilities”. In RE we are thinking about Judaism and whether Shabbat is important to Jewish children?
