Welcome to Puffins - Reception/Year 1 

This half term our overarching theme is ‘Once upon a time’. We will be learning about lots of different celebrations including the exciting time of Christmas. 

We will kickstart our half term with science, where we will be looking at materials as we answer our inquiry question; 

“Which materials would keep us dry?” 

Our key text for this half term is ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’. 

In Maths the reception children will be be exploring, counting and learning the numbers to 5. We will also be looking at comparing these numbers thinking about which is more or less. Year 1 we will be continuing to look at addition and subtraction within 10, before moving on to geometry, looking at 2D and 3D shapes 

In RE we will focus on Christianity as we explore the questions: Reception “What is Christmas?” Year 1: “What gifts might Christians in my town have given Jesus if he had been born here instead of in Bethlehem?” 

Our focus in PE this half term is gymnastics the children will be practising travelling in different ways such as skipping and jumping. They will also be working on their balancing skills. 

Children will be bringing home homework books with a homework sheet home linked to in school learning activities. The children are to complete homework each week and return books to class every Monday.

Puffins have P.E on Monday and Tuesday each week, please ensure that your child's kit is in school each day. 

Please make sure book bags are brought into school daily.
